Yearlong Math Reflection
Every time I need to talk about my skills in math I say... I struggle in math, and it’s hard for me to do well in math classes. While I still struggle, this year has really helped me expand my ideas and perseverance in math. This year was the first class I had taken that spent more time on understanding the process instead of just focusing on the final solution. This concept was very helpful for me because it made me want to keep pushing myself to understand the concepts we were working on instead of just stressing about the final answer. This year the Habits of a Mathematician that I focused on expanding was generating ideas and communicating to my peers in a clear and accessible way. I believe I succeeded in growing these skills and that my work from the year and the way I interacted with my peers in class proves this point. I want to continue to expand my skills next year and continue to grow as a mathematician.
I have been surrounded by the concept of Habits of Heart and Mind for many years now. I believe that these core values of the school help us grow our culture and education constantly. I have gained a deeper appreciation for these concepts of the past few years, especially during Covid-19. This year the value that was the most influential to me was Refinement. I have a hard time wanting to refine my work in math class but this year I pushed myself many times to create a product I was proud of and it paid off in the end. I also used perseverance many times this year in math to complete projects that were difficult for me. As always I cannot wait to continue to grow these core values next year and expand my experiences at AHS.
