POL Reflection
This year I completed my first POL at Animas high school. Overall I had a good experience, I came from Mountain Middle School so I had some experience with speaking in front of an audience but I felt it was hard to transition from one school expectations to the others. For example, in middle school, the POL’s had to be around 20 minutes long so I was always trying to make my POL longer. At Animas, they were only 5 to7 minutes so I had to adjust to making my presentation shorter. I also felt like they expected more of you this year so I had to make sure I was not slacking off and doing my best work. We had a rehearsal day before our presentation and I felt like it was very useful. I made sure that I came prepared for the practice run so I could really get the feedback that I needed. I presented in front of two teachers so I really got to go into the depth of the feedback and compare the different grades that I got. While presenting I realized that my presentation was too long and I needed to cut it down. When I presented my POL ended up being 6 munites and 30 seconds. This was right in the middle of our time slot so it was something that I felt was improved because of the practice runs. Even though I have had practice speaking in front of audiences it is always somewhat of a struggle. I think this POL went really well and I am proud of the work that I have completed. It has been a different experience than the other POL and TPOL’s that I have completed but I feel like I adapted well and I am proud of the work that I presented.
